The Farm and Kitchen at the BETWIXT has a multifaceted mission to connect people back to the land, farming, and real food. We provide opportunities and resources for the young and old alike to see where sustainable practices can take them and transform their lives. Healthy people make better decisions, which opens the door for us to rise consciously.

Changing the Color of Food

Changing the Color of Food is a program open to all interested in reconnecting people of various cultural backgrounds to farming, real food, and the healing power of the land.  Here’s a story that helped to establish our mission:

A young mother who regularly purchased organic vegetables from the same farmer at the market each week noticed a pattern of hesitation by the farmer.  He rarely engaged her in friendly conversation to share about his produce. When she would inquire about his prices, he often felt the need to remind her his vegetables were organic. After supporting the farmer the entire market season, he slowly started to soften up and finally extended an invitation to join his CSA, Community Supported Agriculture program. It appeared he didn’t know many people of color who understood the importance of sustainable farming and the health benefits of an organic farm-to-table diet.

The Farm at BETWIXT wants to help bridge these communities back to the land, creating a movement of healing from the stigma of working the fields to the freedom to grow one’s own food and cook from whole food ingredients. Our goal is for all people to benefit spiritually from food nutrition.
